[The Temple of Castor and Pollux (Rome, Italy), Trench A: Terracotta, JJ-94]

JJ-094 CA 29.* (A 84-31). Drawing. Trench A. Architectural Terracottas: the Archaic and Post-Archaic Period. Frieze Plaques. Fragment of strigillated sima. Preserved part of upper cavetto with rather flat convex strigils and part of the lower fascia with a guilloche pattern. No edges are preserved. H. 12.4, W. 6.5, Th. of lower fascia 1.9, W. of strigil 3.4. Clay is coarse, pale brown-greyish yellow (10YR 7/2-7/3). Painted decoration as described for JJ-93, though better preserved. Every other strigil red, every other yellow pale brown (10YR 8/4-7/4). The red paint has an orange hue (2.5YR 5/6-5/8). On the back of the sima traces of a thinly-applied red slip (10R 5/8) and yellow-plae brown colour as described above. 590-580 BC (Regia III phase) ?
