JJ-98. CA. 29.4 (CA 84-28), trench A. Architectural terracotta, antefix. Three fragments of a gorgoneion antefix. a) lower part (two conjoined fragments) with lower edge preserved, chin and part of mouth with bared teeth, and tongue hanging out, h. 7.5, w. 10.1; b) smaller fragment, left side of face, with half of eye and outer corner of mouth h. 9.2, w. 5.1. No part of tile preserved. The fragments do not join, but a reconstruction is possible, see fig. 8, the reconstructed h. is 13.8 and w. 13.5. Clay coarse, rich in black and brown inclusions and mica, grey in core (2.5YR 6/1), pale brown surface (7.5YR 7/4 - 10YR 7/4). There are few traces of dark brown reddish colour (5YR 4/6) in groove separating gorgoneion from profiled edge, and in left corner of mouth, and in eye. There traces of white crema coloured paint on surface - on chin, togue, and on various parts of the face, and also on the inside of the antefix, although the surface was not smoothed here. 575-550/540 BC.
